A view along a section of the first Via Ferrata in the Tasman region, opened in December 2024 - loads of fun - these images were taken on opening day. Named the 'Cliff Traverse' and graded Austrian difficulty C (A: Easy, B: Moderately difficult, C: Difficult, D: Very difficult, E: Extremely difficult)
A view back to the end of the Cliff Traverse, as seen from the completion book station above
The completion book at the end of the route. The Cliff Traverse takes about 30 minutes to complete
From the top of the Cliff Traverse there is a 10 or so minute walk along and then down to the start of the second route - the 'Cliff Conqueror', graded Austrian difficulty C-D. The following Cliff Conqueror images were taken in February 2026
At the beginning of the Cliff Conqueror it goes straight up - probably the single most physical section of the route, but still with plenty of well placed foot and hand holds
Nearing the top of the initial climb, before it traverses out along exposed cliffs
There are two fixed ladders along the Cliff Conqueror at points where the cliff leans out beyond vertical
Above the first ladder is an airy seat where you can 'relax'
The second ladder is not far from the finish
At the end of the Cliff Conqueror, which takes about an hour, involving more perceived exposure than the Cliff Traverse, but still a heap of fun
