Morning view of Tukino (2,720m - centre) and Te HeuHeu (2,732m - left), from Tukino Village
Te HeuHeu ahead - somewhere
Realising we had bitten off much more than we could chew, in whiteout conditions, at the base of the south facing ice cliffs of Te HeuHeu
Next day the conditions were far better as we headed back up the Mangatoetoenui Glacier to Te HeuHeu
Plodding up the Mangatoetoenui Glacier to access the Summit Plateau - even in bluebird conditions the ice cliffs were too daunting
Ice at the head of the Mangatoetoenui Glacier, as it leads on to the Summit Plateau
Climbing steep frozen snow beneath Tukino. This leads to a notch west of Tukino, which is much more challenging in summer (see Te HeuHeu March 2011 images)
Below the notch
Nearly at the notch, which gives access to the snow slopes on the north side of Tukino and Te HeuHeu
Te HeuHeu summit (2,732m) view, looking south to Tahurangi (2,797m - far left), the Cathedral Rocks (2,663m - completely snow covered here) and Paretetaitonga (2,751m - right of centre)
Te HeuHeu summit (2,732m) view, looking south across the Summit Plateau to Tahurangi (2,797m - far left), the Cathedral Rocks (2,663m) and Paretetaitonga (2,751m - right)
